22 Sep It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Aint Got That Bling

The title of this blog in this case applies to our website, and it also applies to shoes but that’s another story on with the blog… I thought it would be cool to share our experiences of revamping our website, it’s quite a process but I’m happy to say well worth the final outcome, in our case anyway!

I’d been thinking for some time that I wasn’t entirely happy with the way our old website was worded, to me it needed more pizzazz, and to reflect our company image, our personalities and they way we do business – we’re not conventional but the website didn’t portray that, and it was rather verbose – why use 10 words when you can use 100 after all… Isn’t that what a typical lawyer would do!

After some deliberation I decided to take the bull by the horns and give the website a new look and makeover.  One that fitted with the business and the individuals in it – they are important aren’t they?

The first and most important step was finding a web designer in tune with what I was looking for, who would understand our values of being professional but unconventional, corporate but quirky, and serious but savvy.  I spoke to a number of likely candidates and was delighted to find one on this wavelength.  Especially when during discussing layouts, he said “what would a typical lawyer do? And we’ll do the opposite!” He was also not afraid to tell me what he thought was best (in terms of design) and other issues…

Next came meetings, sharing and comparing of ideas, and drafting ideas onto the screen, the latter done by the designer – a good designer is a bit like a mind reader, and the whole process is a meeting of minds. Believe me our designer had to be a good mind reader along with the patience of a saint!

The process from start to finish took around 4 months and these are some of the things I’ve learned:

  • Work with people who are singing the same tune, or at least in the same genre.
  • Work with people who won’t agree with everything you say or tell you what they think you want to hear.
  • Sticks to your guns in if you are sure about something, but let the expert use their wisdom too or you may as well do the whole thing yourself.
  • If something isn’t right don’t settle for less.
  • The creative process should not be rushed.

You will have seen the results if you’ve reached this blog via the website, or reached the website and via our social media platforms.  So does it mean a thing now that we’ve got the bling?
